The world-renowned Greek pianist Gina Bachauer (1910-1976) studied at the Athens Conservatoire, from which she graduated with the highest possible grade. Her international career took her across the globe, but she never forgot the institution where she studied, and later taught, since, upon her passing, Bachauer bequeathed her estate to the Conservatoire. Among her valuable legacies was her piano, which is still used today for the Conservatoire’s educational and artistic activities. An interesting feature of this Steinway piano is the presence of internal weights, which make finger practice more demanding and, as a result, study more effective.
