The three-volume History of Music in Modern Greece presents, for the first time, a comprehensive account of the musical activity in Greece from the period after the Fall of Constantinople (1453) until the dawn of the 21st century. Previous histories or studies about the music of modern Greece have been fragmented, both chronologically and thematically, usually focusing on presenting composers, works, and institutions, and leaving out a comprehensive overview of modern Greek musical life and creation. This publication aims to expand on the social and cultural impact of musical activity, considering it an integral part of modern Greek culture, and attempt to present the musical universe of modern Hellenism.
